"Vision Fairbanks" Public Workshop 2
On March 20, 2007 over 400 people attended Vision Fairbanks Public Workshop No. 2 to see the
results of the public feedback received to date and to discuss the concepts derived from that input.
Translating this feedback into key goals and issues, several major concepts were presented by
Crandall Arambula, the planning team helping us in this process and were put to a vote.  What are
your thoughts on:

Celebrating Chena River through waterfront enhancements yet retaining natural green
space and trails for all to enjoy it's natural beauty?

Creating a key focal street for all to visit - Cushman becoming a 2-way, retail signature
street, marked by roundabouts at either end?

Enhancing a multi-modal circulation system that includes off-street bike and pedestrian
    pathways?

Having a Streetcar run along Cushman that connects the railroad depot to downtown and
    the airport?

Creating a new urban housing district just north of the river with streetcar and walking
connection over Cushman bridge to the downtown core?

Creating a public square for all to enjoy, in the heart of a brand new retail "hotspot" - a
celebration of our community and gathering place?

Having a Civic Anchor mark the start of the entry to Downtown - beginning at the corner of
    Airport and Cushman that encompasses:
                   Convention Center
                   Performing Arts Center
                   A Family Skate Park
                   Enclosed Tropical Garden

The creation of a mixed-use Class A commercial office District next to the new parking
    garage?

NEXT STEP:
What do you think - do these concepts embrace your thoughts of a vibrant downtown for our
community?

These concepts need everyone's input before the next planning phase can occur - which is design
and implementation.  How will we, as a community choose to view these elements?  What exactly
would our streetscape look like? What would a public square look like? How wide would the
sidewalks be - can they be heated, do we want  enclosed shopping areas?

Don't miss out on taking part in helping to plan our downtown - please mark your calendars for the
next meeting on May 23, 2007, Westmark Hotel & Conference Center, 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.
