THE TIME TO ACT HAS COME. BE THERE IN BLUE.
The Fairbanks North Star Borough Regional Comprehensive Plan (Comprehensive Plan) recognizes the challenges and opportunities
growth brings and strongly supports an effort to revitalize and improve downtown Fairbanks.  The Borough Planning Department and
Downtown Association of Fairbanks have partnered together  to prepare a community driven, sustainable urban design, land use and
economic development plan for the downtown area.  Utilizing the skills of one of the country's top urban planning firms,
Crandall
Arambula from Portland OR, this plan is consistent with the Downtown Association's mission of developing "a comprehensive and
achievable plan for the revitalization and future growth of the downtown".

The urban design, land use and economic development plan also includes an implementation strategy that will be financially feasible.
The overall plan factors in many elements unique to the Fairbanks community including the Chena River, the historic nature of
Fairbanks, along with residential and commercial districts of downtown.  Geographically, the plan encompasses portions  of the
Alaska Railroad yard along the north side of the Chena River.  It also addresses our special northern climate and environment and
incorporate winter city design concepts.

The completion of this project will provide a tangible vision for all of us: residents, business people, and community leaders of the
great potentials and advantages to investing, living and doing business downtown.  Any suggestions, thoughts or ideas you can give to
the development of this planning effort are welcome and will greatly benefit the project.

As a community member, there are a number of ways in which you can get involved:

   Talk it up.
Learn about the concepts and talk about it with your friends and family.

Write a letter.  Politicians really do listen - let your local politician know that you are in favor of the community deciding their own
   future through this planning process.

Become a Vision Fairbanks Ambassador.  To in the loop on all that is going on to make these dreams become a reality. Simply
   email us at
info@downtownfairbanks.com    letting us know what interests you and we'll keep you notified ...whether you are
interested in codes and ordinances, design guidelines, the skatepark, grocery store, convention center or Chena River
Celebration, we'll give you the opportunity to be as actively involved as you like!  Together, we can make this happen.
We urge you to attend one or all of these three critical dates (left column), so please mark your
calendar.  This is beyond epic. Vision Fairbanks is a comprehensive community vision for
revitalization. It is the culmination of multiple public workshops, surveys, and meetings over the
past two years and will be the turning point of life for downtown. Right now, our community has the
chance to stand up for having a say in our own future, in the future development of our downtown.
There are a million details that we will, as a community, need to discuss and decide upon
together, but today is the day for saying that we want to have that say, that we believe in our own
future and that we believe in this community driven plan.
