As fall was fading into winter an enjoyable time was had by all at the historic Fairbanks Shakespeare Empress Theatre. The theatre, which used to show high brow movies to the Fairbanksans of yesteryear, was filled with laughter and camaraderie at our yearly business meeting which took place on October 21, from 5:30 until 7:30. A quorum was quickly reached, and the first hour was devoted to member business, including financial statements and the voting in of new Board Members.
Next, an informative presentation about the Downtown Association was given, which was followed by our 2009 Downtown Award Ceremony.
The festivities continued as people indulged in food, drink and fine conversat
ion. Bahn Thai, Bobby’s Downtown, Gambardella’s Pasta Bella, l’asseitte de Pomegranate, and Lavelle’s Bistro’s delicious offerings were the highlights of the evening. Party-goers also got to listen to the great jazz of Ron Veliz and watch remarkable videos produced by Isaiah Mangum, which chronicle our downtown.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the many people who assisted us with our Annual Meeting. A special thank you goes to Hans Meyer of Fairbanks Shakespeare Empress Theatre who welcomed us into his happening space and helped us with a variety of needs. Downtown Fairbanks is certainly filled with wonderful, unexpected places and people. Thank you one and all!
