Co-Op Arts Learning Center will have Daniel P. Kennedy as a featured artist for the month of May.  Dan’s show, “A Naturalist’s Retrospective”, is an exhibition of works from an extended period of creation.  Dan’s attraction to nature has been fostered since his childhood. He likes to paint with water-based oil, acrylic & watercolors outside, immersed in the Alaskan environment. His art captures and shares with his audience memories of experiences spanning several decades.  Some of Dan’s work depicts animals, usually birds, in their proper habitat. Dan’s show, “A Naturalist’s Retrospective”, is a collection of nature based art and portraits. Dan enjoyed painting the art in the open air so much that he returned to oil-based paint to lengthen the amount of time that he was able to spend on each painting.

Dan has decades of experience in the arts. He has been professionally employed in product and graphic design. Additionally Dan has taught art in a variety of settings to a diverse range of students (he will be teaching “Exploring the Natural World” through the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival (www.fsaf.org to register).  Dan has also assisted in many outdoor-arts related programs.   Dan’s recent work has been inspired with nuanced insights into nature after his divorce and doing a series of non-art related jobs. He has found himself in a new environment; different from that he had known his whole life up till then. One of the few constants during this time of transition has been the stability and majesty Dan has found in nature.  “A Naturalist’s Retrospective”, is an exhibition that displays a variety of styles ranging from scientific illustration to contemporary fine art, in a variety of media.
