The Alaska Federation of Natives annual convention returns to Fairbanks again this year and will draw more than 4,000 people from throughout Alaska.  AFN was last here in 2013 and then, as now, this extraordinary convention succeeds on the strength of local volunteers.  Explore Fairbanks is leading the effort to fill the 654 2.5-hour volunteer time blocks.

You can sign up to volunteer online and, to be an optimized ambassador for Fairbanks, you can also choose a convenient time for a Culturally Diverse Communication Training for yourself and/or your employees or managers can schedule an on-site training for employees by contacting Helen Renfrew.

Training topics include an understanding of what culture is, who are Alaska’s diverse Native peoples, differences in communication styles, how to avoid misunderstandings while communicating and how to accommodate cultural differences.

AFN will be in Fairbanks October 20-22, 2016.
