The Downtown Association of Fairbanks announces the 2016 Midnight Sun Festival Logo Contest. The contest officially opens on January 15. Graphic designers can submit logo designs through an online form here. The entry deadline is Monday, March 7 at 11:59 PM.
“We’ve gotten great art to use as logos through this contest,” said David van den Berg, Executive Director of the Downtown Association. “And that art has gotten a lot of play.”
The winning design will be printed on official festival t-shirts, light pole banners, posters, advertisements and print guides. The winning artist will receive a $300 cash prize and five complimentary festival t-shirts. The winner will also receive a light pole banner featuring their design.
Logos must include the words “Midnight Sun Festival 2016” and “Downtown Fairbanks, Alaska.” Designs may incorporate up to four colors. Artists may submit multiple designs. A full list of rules is available here.
“Fairbanks anticipates the Midnight Sun Festival logo reveal each year,” said Kara Nash, the festival’s event planner. “Showcasing a winning design and designer has been a great change for this event,” she added. The official logo has been chosen by popular vote since 2012. “It allows us to really embrace the talent in the community.”
A panel of judges will determine the finalists. Final entries will be posted on Facebook and on downtownfairbanks.com on March 8.
As in previous years, the public will choose the winner by popular vote. The winner will be announced on Friday, March 11.
The 2016 Midnight Sun Festival will be on Sunday, June 19 from Noon to Midnight. This year will mark the festival’s 35th anniversary.
