Join Fairbanks Arts for a virtual First Friday featuring two new exhibitions, f/4 (Four Female Fotographers from Fairbanks) and Fertile Darkness by Melanie Lombard.
The group exhibition of f/4 features artists Judy Sanchez, Charlotte Peterson, Alyssa Enriquez, and Jerzy Ellanna. F/4 loosely follows a photographic tradition started in 1932, with the first museum exhibition of Group f/64. Group f/64 was eager to present a new vision, redefining what their medium looked like and represented. Like the original society, f/4 is a group of photographers who have found inspiration and support within each other and are no longer waiting for a “new vision”, nor an entirely new photographic style. The four artists share a deep respect for the medium and each present different approaches, styles, and techniques in this, their first exhibition together.
In Fertile Darkness, Anchorage artist Melanie Lombard’s work explores relationships between the natural world and internal experience. When hiking or walking in the forest she pays close attention to the textures and colors of the landscape, as well as evidence of animals- especially nests, tracks, bones and feathers. She works with this metaphor of inward experience as wilderness and finds that the internal landscape makes more sense when she lives in emotional and artistic balance with nature, sensitive to the changing seasons.
Both exhibitions will be available online beginning Friday, May 1 at 6pm.
