Two Street Gallery presents “Scaling Down” by Penny Wakefield, a collection of mixed media landscapes made primarily from fish skin.
“I have experimented and explored over the years a variety of textile mediums but find that my favorite exploration has been in mixed media in the use of unusual materials, such as pig gut and fishskin. I became interested in fishskin in 1985-86 and gut in 1987. I mainly work with fish skin, cleaning and drying the skin to a parchment, with a transparent quality that can be used as fabric, using the light and dark values to create shapes, forms and depth in my abstract landscapes. I dye and freeze dry the skins in the winter to get additional color values.”
