Annual Meeting Recap. The membership re-elected five incumbent board members and elected two new board members nominated “from the floor.” Returning board members are Jackson Fox, David Hayden, Christine Luper, Chris Miller and Buki Wright, and the new board members are Meredith Maple (Fairbanks Children’s Museum) and Rylieh Bodyfelt (Sotheby’s). Then, to recognize the achievements and contributions of others, the Downtown Association gave four awards:

Speedy Takedown
“To recognize that downtown has been improved by the removal of a dangerous building and that a revitalization is underway at 4th and Lacey.” - Fairbanks Police Department
Essential Services
“To recognize the professional excellence from FPD’s officers patrolling downtown for the second year in a row, showing that such patrols are effective at providing order and increasing public safety.” - Explore Fairbanks
Partner of the Year
“To recognize the breadth of their support for downtown-as-destination, which benefits the entire Fairbanks community.” - Gather
Revitalization of the Year
“To recognize the importance of staying downtown when a business outgrows its space and for revitalizing a downtown venue.”

Fairbanks Children’s Museum is looking for letters of support for their efforts to grow. With over 50,000 visits per year, downtown really benefits from having the museum downtown. The museum’s presentation to Sen. Murkowski for community development seed money will be strongest with Fairbanks’ support. Send letters of support to Meredith Maple. These letters can be from businesses, non-profits, or individuals telling a story of how the museum has benefitted you or Fairbanks. If you need “inspiration” please take a look at the one we wrote.
