Learn to De-escalate Tense or Challenging Situations at a De-escalation Workshop on Wednesday, May 20, from 8:30–10:00 AM at the Fairbanks Community Museum (top floor of the Co‑Op Plaza, 535 2nd Avenue). You’ll learn about community response teams and principles of de-escalation you can use right away, and you’ll have a chance to connect with other businesses in the downtown core. The City of Fairbanks will lead the training. Come as you are. Coffee and pastries will be provided. For more information call 907-378-1253.
Respondents to the RFP for the Polaris site must demonstrate their capacity to implement or construct the idea they propose. Are there investors out there looking for ideas? If so, we don’t mind passing along, let’s say, plausible or attractive ideas. One such is the New Loon, a proposed cultural anchor for downtown Fairbanks.
Farewell, Mr. Haynes. We lost a long time Fairbanksan and Downtowner when he passed away on Sunday, May 10. Mr. Haynes always greeted you with a smile, like an old friend, while radiating kindness…the epitome of a golden heart. Mr. Haynes founded Ebony & Ivory Store in the Co-Op Plaza a long time ago before retiring and handing the business to his daughter Jennifer, who moved to the corner of 3rd and Lacey Street. Mr. Haynes was a retired laborer, active in his church and the Fairbanks community. He will be laid to rest in South Carolina; there will be a memorial for him here later this summer.
