Meet the Greenspace @ The Big I Parking Lot

share on:

In recent years this unassuming riverbank site has been neglected and reduced to a parking lot. The river is now blocked off by an overgrown berm topped with “No Trespassing” signs. However, this riverfront has witnessed more history than any place in the City of Fairbanks.

Our Art Selection Committee’s process begins with encouraging the community to consider the potential for Public Art at this significant place. We then want to listen to what you think about possible themes, impressions and to your dreams of what can happen here. We want to understand what this greenspace can mean to you and what it can mean to our town. This is
your chance to help Fairbanks explain itself.

Your concepts will guide us in preparing our “Request for Proposals” which, when published, will then be the basis of our search for Public Art. The RFP will focus and inspire the imaginations of the responding artists. Your ideas will help generate the original artwork that we seek. What do

• Meet the Art Selection Committee. you think?
• We’ll have more project details for you.
• Volunteers will take input from you and from that we’ll create a “shopping list” of what we want in this space.
