LUCAS ELLIOTT

Lucas is an admissions clerk at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He grew up in Fairbanks and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from UAF in 2009. You can find his book illustrations and graphic artwork at “The Art of Lucas Elliott” on Facebook and Chartreuse (729 1st Avenue), plus in his online store with Etsy.

Q : Why did you enter the logo contest?

I thought that it’d be good experience to try and get my name out there a little more. I actually had quite a few people tell me that I should enter something into the contest so I said – why not?

Q : What inspired your design?

I wanted to do something a little different. Every design I was looking at, I saw that they were boxy, circular, or uniform. I wanted to do something bright, something that would appeal to kids as well. My work tends to be illustrative and cartoon-y and I wanted to incorporate that into my work- especially the colors in the sun and the river.

Q : How do you think this logo represents the festival?

The Midnight Sun Festival is just one big party. That’s how I viewed it with my color scheme and how the lines work. It’s very happy and exciting. It’s one of the events I look forward to most every year and I wanted to make something that people would just want to wear around and share.
