Fairbanks Counseling & Adoption (FCA) is happy to announce the 28th annual ‘A Taste of Art,’ presented this year by Mt. McKinley Bank. ‘A Taste of Art’ will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Westmark Gold Room. Registration for this event is online.

Last year Fairbanks Counseling & Adoption helped 122 homeless teens avoid hunger by providing over 10,000 meals. FCA assisted these teens by finding them a place to stay for the night and gave them guidance to seek alternatives to drugs and alcohol. The Family Treatment department gave counseling and support to 187 individuals. Over 50 parents participated in our Nurturing Parenting and Nurturing Fathering Courses, which helps build healthier families by sharing alternatives to conflict. The Adoption Department helped 146 couples and individuals explore the possibility of adoption, assisted 15 families with adoption placements, and supported many other couples in our community to move closer to their dream of starting or adding to their family by completing 67 home studies. Proceeds from ‘A Taste of Art’ will benefit the following programs year round:

  • Adoption Counseling and Support
  • Individual, Child and Family Counseling and Support
  • Parenting Classes
  • Street Outreach Services for Homeless and Runaway Youth
  • Family Support Services
  • Counseling Services for Victims of Domestic Violence
  • Pregnancy Counseling & Support

“For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream,” said the famed painter Vincent van Gogh. Mt. McKinley Bank’s ‘A Taste of Art’ will be an evening of dinner, dancing and a silent and oral auction. This year’s theme, ‘Starry Night’ is a modern twist on the painting by van Gogh. Blues and golds will make the room come to life as we showcase Made in Alaska donations, featured art, a gift card wall, locally made desserts and many unique services and experiences up for bid during the event.

This year’s ‘A Taste of Art’ is chaired by Aaron Pletnikoff of Denali State Bank and Sara Smith of Yukon Title Company, Inc. The event will showcase dozens of local artists.

The featured artist for 2016 is Sara Tabbert. Sara Tabbert grew up in Fairbanks and returned to live and work in her hometown in 2000. According to her website, most of her artwork is inspired by the natural world. “I combine the information that I gather through observation with other ideas to create pieces that are simultaneously real as well as fantastic,” Tabbert said. “When my art is at its best it is part science and part fairy tale.”

The evening’s itinerary:

  • Doors open at 6 PM
  • Dinner served at 7 PM
  • Auction starts at 8 PM

This event will be hosted by DJ Jim Matherly and organized by Event Alaska.
