As part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration, WEIO will be having a ceremonial Opening of the Games at Griffin Park. This event will take place on Tuesday, July 19th at Noon.
The downtown park was the original location of the first Eskimo Olympics event in July 1961.
The brief presentation will include recognition of the original participants and organizers; as well as entertainment provided by the Pavva Inupiaq Dancers, performing on Centennial Bridge.
The community is invited and a special invitation is extended to all past and present participants and their families, particularly anyone from those first games!
