Wild Alaskan Flowers @ Gallery 49

share on:

Gallery 49’s June First Friday show will be “Wild Alaskan Flowers.” This is a “featured art” rather than a “featured artist” show, with Alaskan artists expressing Alaska’s abundance of wild flowers through multiple media and genera. These will explore and celebrate living where the art is as much the environment as it is the stroke of a master artist’s hand. Already committed artists include:

Cynthia West Hansen is providing a unique opportunity for Fairbanks KUAC poster collectors. The “AlaskaOne Wild Iris” original painting used for the 25th Anniversary will be available for both viewing, and purchase, along with other works by Hansen.

Jeanne Armstrong has taken the show title in a humorous direction. The painting “When Organic Gardening Fails” is a flower at a bar ordering a shot of Miracle Grow. Another painting, larger than her typical work and titled “Dandelion Wine,” has some dandelions enjoying some dandelion spirits. Armstrong’s piece of iris shapes cut from zebra and leopard print material is a collage of painted paper and prints, creatively ‘coloring outside the lines.’

Betsy Bear’s bright and juicy wild flowers painted on Yupo, new Nikki Kinne fireweed paintings, plus others of the 30+ artists represented by Gallery 49 will have flower related artwork included.

Gallery 49’s First Friday artist reception is 5 to 8PM, June 1st, 535 Second Ave., Suite 103, in the heart of the Co-Op Plaza. Call 452-ARTS (2787) for more information.
